U11-U18 Programs - Competitive CMBA Player
Calgary Minor Basketball (CMBA) is the parent association responsible for the delivery of community basketball in Calgary and surrounding areas and it consists of many zones. Calgary Northwest Basketball (CNWB) is one of these zones and is restricted to specific boundaries. Please use this zone finder to verify you are registering with the correct zone as a northwest residence does not necessarily mean you are in the boundaries for Calgary Northwest Basketball association. Calgary Northwest Basketball is Zone 1 on the map. Any registrations outside our boundaries will be withdrawn and directed to register with the correct zone, accompanied by a $50 administration fee.
CMBA offers competitive programs in specific age categories:
U11 - 9-10yrs
U13 - 11-12yrs
U15 - 13-14yrs
U18/Highschool - gr.10-12
Our regular season typically starts early September with evaluations, team selection and ball practices and games to follow and is completed by the end of February. Some teams may choose or be selected to go to Provincials usually the second weekend in March.
All registrants in this program are evaluated at the beginning of September. You can still play CNWB Basketball even if you have never played before, all players make a team and there are no “cuts”. They are then placed on an equally skilled team, with anywhere from 8-14 players. This number is determined by the total number of registrants to that age category.
All Calgary NorthWest teams are gender specific; we have no mixed competitive teams.
All of our coaches are VOLUNTEERS, please consider this when signing up your child(ren).
The season begins in September and ends in mid to late March.
Practices
Once placed on a team, this is where the player stays for the season. The player’s coach/manager will contact him/her and advise them of what night anywhere they will be practicing. Calgary NorthWest teams typically practice ONE night per week. Practices can begin as early 6:00 pm, and are 1-2 hrs in length. Younger players are slotted into the earlier time slots, if we have the facilities
PLEASE NOTE: Practice nights will not be determined until after the evaluation process is complete, teams are formed, and coaches placed.
Games
All teams will participate in a “seeding round” to ensure they will be competing in divisions with other teams of similar skill and ability. Players and teams competing with similar players and teams ensure maximum fun and skill development! Every team will play in divisional playoffs at the end of the season
ALL game times for CMBA teams are on Saturdays. These can begin as early as 9:00 am, and start as late as 4:45 pm.
At the High School CMBA level, games can be played on Friday evenings. Calgary NorthWest Basketball has no control over the game schedule that is issued through CMBA (Calgary Minor Basketball). Game facilities can be anywhere within the CMBA boundaries, which means CITY WIDE, including Okotoks, Airdrie and Cochrane.
All CNWB CMBA players receive a Basketball Uniform. These are to be worn at games only, NOT practices and are to be returned at the end of the season. Failure to do so by April 1, 2021 will result in a $125 charge to your credit card.
